PhD Position
PhD position (1/2 E13) at the Center for Applied Geosciences, Environmental Analytical Chemistry, University of Tübingen, within the framework of the DFG Research Unit 580 „Electron Transfer Processes in Anoxic Aquifers“. The position is open until filled.
The focus of the Environmental Analytical Chemistry group is on the occurrence and fate of organic trace compounds in the environment and in water treatment. We develop analytical methods for micro-pollutants and apply them to investigate environmental and technical processes.
The DFG-funded research project focuses on the formation of dissolved organic sulfur compounds (DOSC) under anoxic conditions. DOSC have to be produced in the lab and isolated from field samples. Furthermore, effects of DOSC on iron-based redox processes and on colloid formation will be considered. The work will include electrochemical, spectroscopic, and mass spectrometric characterization of DOSC.
We are looking for candidates with a background in environmental chemistry, chemistry and geochemistry. The candidates should be highly motivated and interested to work in an interdisciplinary group. Experience in the use of spectroscopic, electrochemical and mass spectrometric analytical tools and chemical laboratory work is of advantage. Prerequisite for the position is an excellent diploma/master degree.
In the case of equivalent qualified and experienced candidates, physically challenged applicants are given preference. The University of Tübingen aims to increase the portion of women in research and teaching and encourages applications from qualified female scientists. Employment takes place via the Central Administration of the University.
Please send your application with an curriculum vitae, transcripts/certificates, names of referees and a statement of the candidate’s motivation to Zentrum für Angewandte Geowissenschaften, AG Umweltanalytik, Prof. Dr. Christian Zwiener (christian.zwiener@uni-tuebingen.de), Universität Tübingen, Sigwartstr. 10, D-72076 Tübingen, Germany.
