Ph.D. position in mitochondrial biology
| |
The general interest of our group is how mitochondrial energy metabolism modulates life-span and pathophysioloy in neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders and in the aging process. Along with already existing murine lines, we will characterize newly established mouse strains on the phenotypical, physiological and biochemical level. These studies will be complemented by cell culture studies.
We are a young, dynamic group which is integrated in an excellent, collaborative and international scientific environment at the University of Cologne (Center of Molecular Medicine, Excellence Cluster for Aging Research - CECAD). To complement our team, we are looking for a highly motivated
Ph.D. student (TV-L EG 13/2)
with an interest in molecular basis and defects in cellular metabolism and development of novel therapeutic approaches. Applicants must hold a Diploma, Magister or Master qualifying for a PhD position.
Successful applicants should have a background knowledge on cellular and molecular biology and should be able to work independently after a training period. Prior technical knowledge (mouse genetics, cell culture) is not required. An interest or background in genetics, developmental biology, cell biology, or biochemistry would be advantageous for this position. Funding through the Emmy-Noether-Program of the German Research Society is initially available for 3 years.
The University of Cologne is an equal opportunity employer in compliance with the German disability laws. Women and persons with disabilities are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.
Please send your application preferably by email (cover letter with research interests, CV, brief statement of research skills and experience) to Dr. Tina Wenz at the Institute for Genetics, University of Cologne, Zülpicher Str. 47a, 50674 Köln. E-mail: tina.wenz@uni-koeln.de
Deadline for applications is May 15th 2010.
